Planet Mower is a game made by Spiker Labs Ltd. It does not know who you are, and never tries to find out. The only thing it sends us is how each planet was played, without your name or anything that identifies you, so that we can make the planets fair. You can switch that off in the settings.
What the game keeps
- There are no accounts and nothing to sign in to.
- There is no advertising, and nothing in the game follows you across other apps or websites.
- Your progress is saved on your device only. Deleting the game deletes it.
Play data
After each planet, the game sends a record of how that planet was played. We use it for one thing: to see where the game is too hard or too easy, and to set the clocks and the planets so that they are fair. It is how we found, for example, that the early clocks left too little time.
Each record holds exactly this:
- the planet, whether it had grown over, which mower upgrade you had, and how many lives you held when you started it;
- for every frame of the run (sixty a second): whether your finger was on the screen, how far you were steering, the time, how much grass was cut by then, and the mower's damage;
- what happened along the way: what the mower bumped into (a house, a mountain), when it drove onto gravel or into deep water or was caught by a beam, the power-ups it picked up or you used, and the invaders it stopped;
- how the planet ended (cleared, out of time, mower broken, or left), the stars it earned, and the date and time it was played;
- the version of the game;
- a random number made by the game when it was first opened, so that one player's runs can be told apart from another's. It is not tied to you, your device or your Apple Account, and installing the game again makes a new one.
It does not hold your name, your email, your location, your contacts, your device's identifiers, your Game Center name, or anything you type. Where the mower went on the planet is not recorded, only the steering.
What it is not used for
Play data is not used to build a profile of you, to work out who you are, to show you anything different from other players, to advertise to you, or to follow you anywhere else. It is never sold or shared with anyone, and never joined up with other information about you. We look at runs together, planet by planet, to tune the game.
Where it goes, and switching it off
The records are stored in the game's own space in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit), and only if you are signed in to iCloud on your device. Apple keeps them under Apple's privacy policy and adds to each one a code for the iCloud account that sent it: the same code on every record from that account, made by Apple for this game alone. It is not your name, your email or your Apple Account, Apple does not tell us who it belongs to, and we do not use it. Only we can read the records.
Sharing play data is on unless you switch it off: open the settings from the map (the cog) and switch off Help improve the game. Nothing more is sent from then on, and records not yet sent are deleted from your device. Records already sent stay where they are: they do not say who sent them, so we cannot pick out yours.
Purchases
If you buy Unlimited, the payment is handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
Notifications
If you ask the game to tell you when your lives are back, the reminder is scheduled on your device. Nothing is sent to us.
Game Center
If you are signed in to Apple's Game Center, the game sends your daily planet time, your best speed run and your achievements to Game Center, where your Game Center name and your scores can be seen by other players in the rankings. Game Center is run by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and you can sign out of it in your device's settings. We do not receive or keep this information ourselves, and it is never joined up with play data.
Changes
If any of this changes, this page will be updated before the change reaches the game.
